iPhone SE 1st Generation

iPhone 5se was a special edition of the iPhone 5, released by Apple in March 2016. It was designed as a budget-friendly option for customers, featuring a smaller 4-inch display and a similar design to the iPhone 5s.

Under the hood, the iPhone 5se was powered by the A9 chip with 64-bit architecture, which offered performance similar to that of the iPhone 6s. It also had a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. The device came with Touch ID and supported Apple Pay, and had the same options of storage (16 and 64GB).

The iPhone 5se was discontinued by Apple in September 2018 and was replaced by the iPhone SE (2nd generation) which was more powerful and had a bigger screen.

The iPhone 5se featured a 4-inch Retina display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels, providing a pixel density of 326ppi. It also had a fingerprint scanner (Touch ID) built into the home button, which allowed users to unlock their device and make purchases with Apple Pay.

The device ran on iOS 9 and was upgradable to iOS 12.4.6, the latest version of the iOS operating system at the time of its discontinuation. It also supported Siri, which allowed users to use voice commands to control various functions on the device.

In terms of connectivity, the iPhone 5se supported 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and NFC, as well as a lightning port for charging and data transfer. It also had a built-in GPS and GLONASS for location tracking and navigation.

The rear camera of the iPhone 5se was a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a True Tone flash. The front camera was a 1.2-megapixel sensor with an f/2.4 aperture and the ability to shoot 720p HD video.

The device came in four colour options: space grey, silver, gold, and rose gold, and had a storage capacity of 16GB or 64GB.

Overall, the iPhone 5se was a budget-friendly option for customers looking for a smaller, more compact iPhone with a similar design and features to the iPhone 5s and 6s.

Is it worth it for 2023?

In 2023, the iPhone 5se will be 7 years old and it may not be the best option for someone looking for a new device. While the device was considered a budget-friendly option when it was released in 2016, its performance and features may not be up to par with the latest smartphones available in 2023.

The device runs on iOS 12.4.6 which is the latest version it can run and this OS version may not be able to support all the latest apps and features that are available on the newer versions of iOS. Also, the specs and features of the iPhone 5se like the 4-inch display, 12-megapixel camera, and A9 chip, may not be as advanced as the latest smartphones on the market in 2023.

Additionally, the device will no longer be receiving software updates from Apple, which means that any security vulnerabilities found on the device will not be patched.

It may be worth considering an iPhone SE (2nd generation) or newer iPhone models that have been released in recent years if you are looking for a new device in 2023.
